The fundemental teachings of this church are reflected in the following statements of faith. Our purpose in stating these basic beliefs is to establish a doctrinal foundation for LifeSpring.
We Believe...
- ...that the Bible, comprised of the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired word of God and the only infallible guide and rule of our faith and life (2 Tim. 3:16; 1 Cor. 2:13; 2 Pe. 1:21).
- ...in the eternal, omnipotent, omnisciant, omnipresent, and immutable triune God, the Creator of heaven and earth, and all that is in them. He has revealed Himself as one God existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, who is undivided in essence and co-equal in power and glory (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; 1 Tim. 1:17; 1 Jn 5:7).
- ...in the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the second person of the Godhead, the Savior of mankind. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin, Mary, and is totally God and totally man (Lk. 1:26-35; Jn. 1;14-18; Is. 7:14, 9:6).
- ...in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, who was sent by the Father, through the Son, to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment (Jn. 14:26, 15:26, 16:8).
- ...in the creation, test, and fall of mankind and people's spiritual depravity and inability to attain divine righteousness on their own (Gen. 1-3; Rom. 5:12, 18).
- ...that the Lord Jesus Christ has, by His immaculate conception, sinless life, suffering and death, made an atonement for all people, so that all have an opportunity for salvation (Rom. 4:25).
- ...that repentance toward God, confession that Jesus Christ is Lord, faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and regeneration by the Holy Spirit are necessary for salvation (Jn. 3:3; Rom. 10:9-10; 1 Pe. 2:24).
- ...that it is by grace we have been saved, through faith and that we are God's masterpiece, created in Christ Jesus to do the good works God has prepared in advance for us to do (Eph. 2:8-9).
- ...that water baptism and communion are for those who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior. These ordinances are observed in obedience to our Lord Jesus Christ as acts of love and devotion and are not considered to be necessary for salvation (Matt. 28:19; Ac. 2:34-36, 19:1-6; 1 Cor. 11:17-28).
- ...that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Jesus Christ, and that He is our abiding Helper, Teacher, and Guide. We believe in the present day ministry of the Holy Spirit as recorded throughout the New Testament, including the exercise of all the biblical gifts of the Holy Spirit (Jn. 14:26; 1 Cor. 6:19, 12:1-11).
- ...in the filling of the Holy Spirit as a real, ongoing experience in the life of believers, empowering them as witnesses of Christ through expressing the fruit of the Spirit, ministering in spiritual gifts, interceding effectively in prayer, and verbally communicating the gospel (Ac. 1:4-8, 2:1-4, 8:14-17, 10:44-46; 1 Cor. 12:4-11; Gal. 5:22-23; Eph. 5:18).
- ...in the second coming of Jesus Christ; in the immortality of the soul; in the resurrection of the body; in the general judgment at the end of the world; in eternal life for believers; and in the eternal punishment and seperation from God for unbelievers (Mk. 9:43-48; Jn. 3:16, 5:24; 2 Thes. 1:8-9; Rev. 20:10-15).
